The Outcome of the 2026 Elections for the Progress and Socialism Party
In the recently concluded 2026 parliamentary elections, the Progress and Socialism Party, known as "the Book Party," secured a total of 19 seats, which were divided between local and regional constituencies. Specifically, the party obtained 10 seats from local districts and 9 from regional lists designated for women. The elected representatives include Rashid Hamouni from the Boulemane district, Mariam Wahsaa from Beni Mellal, Ahmed Abadi from Taza, Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzaidi from Taounate-Tissa, Amin Bezzid from Jdida, and Fouad Karim from Khemisset and Al Mass. Additionally, Osman Al-Marsi won a seat in the Essaouira district, Abed Khaleq Bysenti in Larache, Hassan Al-Dahham in Laayoune, and Mohamed Qasha in Tinghir.
On the regional level, the party's successful candidates include Mariam Al-Kanouni from Marrakech-Safi, Dalila Al-Oudi from Casablanca-Settat, Soumia Munsif Haji from Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, Hanan Al-Sufi from the Eastern region, and Fatima Asouidi from Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra. Furthermore, the list of female candidates also features Khadija Al-Baz from Souss-Massa, Ahlam Jeld from Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fatima Zahra Barhiyoui from Fez-Meknes, and Hafida Imami from Beni Mellal-Khenifra.
Despite securing these seats, the results fell short of the party's expectations, which had set a target of attaining at least 50 seats in this election cycle. The election outcomes indicate a decline in representation for the party, as it previously held 22 seats in the parliamentary elections conducted on September 8, 2021. This drop raises questions about the party's future strategies and its ability to maintain its political influence in the evolving electoral landscape.
