The Party of Progress and Socialism's Election Outcome
In the recent 2026 parliamentary elections, the Party of Progress and Socialism (PPS) secured a total of 19 seats in the House of Representatives. This allocation consists of 10 seats from local constituencies and 9 dedicated to regional districts for women. Notable winners include Rashid Hamouni from the Boulemane constituency, Maryam Wahsa from the Beni Mellal district, Ahmed Al-Abadi from Taza, and Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzaidi from Taounate-Tissa, among others. The party also saw success in various other local districts, with candidates like Osman Al-Marsi in Essaouira and Abdelkhaleq Bysanti in Larache achieving victories.
In addition to local victories, the PPS gained representation in regional districts, with Maryam Al-Kanouni winning a seat in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudiyi in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumia Mounsef Haji in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region. Other successful female candidates included Hanan Al-Sufi in the Eastern region and Fatima Aswidi in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, reflecting the party's commitment to women's representation. The final list of winners from the "Book Party" also includes Khadija Al-Baz from the Souss-Massa region, Ahlam Jeld from Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fatima Zahra Barhiyoui from Fez-Meknes, and Hafida Imami from Beni Mellal-Khenifra.
However, these results fell short of the party's expectations, as the PPS had projected a potential gain of at least 50 seats. This setback represents a decline from their previous performance in the September 8, 2021 elections, where they had won 22 seats. The results have raised questions about the party's future trajectory and its ability to regain momentum in the Moroccan political landscape.
