The Progress and Socialism Party's Election Results
In the recent 2026 parliamentary elections, the Progress and Socialism Party (PPS) managed to secure only 19 seats in the House of Representatives. This outcome is divided between 10 seats obtained from local constituencies and 9 seats from regional lists designated for women. The party had previously expressed aspirations of winning at least 50 seats, which makes this result a significant disappointment for its members and supporters.
Among the successful candidates are Rashid Hamouni from the Boulemane constituency, Mariam Wahsate from Beni Mellal, Ahmed Al-Abadi from Taza, and Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzaidi from Taounate-Tissa. Additionally, the local constituencies also saw victories for Othman Al-Marsi in Essaouira, Abdelkhaleq Bysanti in Larache, Hassan Al-Dharham in Laayoune, and Mohamed Qashah in Tinghir.
From the regional lists, prominent wins include Mariam Al-Kanouni in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudiy in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumya Mansaf Haji in the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, alongside Hanan Al-Sufi in the Eastern region, and Fatima Asweidi in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra. The list of victorious women from the "Book Party" also features Khadija Al-Baz from Souss-Massa, Ahlam Jeld from Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fatima Zahra Barhiwi from Fes-Meknes, and Hafida Imami from Beni Mellal-Khenifra.
This election result indicates a regression for the PPS compared to the previous elections held on September 8, 2021, where the party garnered 22 seats. The decline in the number of seats demonstrates a shift in the political landscape and raises questions about the party's strategies and appeal among the electorate.
