Their dream was to conquer the challenging 6,000 kilometers that stretched from France through Spain to Morocco in their beloved Renault 4L. After traversing vast distances, Alexandre and Julien found themselves returning home by air, their cherished car left behind due to a significant mechanical failure. A Journey Filled with Challenges
The 4L Trophy is not just a race; it is a charity event that unites hundreds of teams each year, all committed to supporting the Red Cross by delivering essential supplies to those in need. The adventure commenced on February 18, 2026, and concluded on March 1, 2026, with participants navigating rugged terrains and unpredictable weather conditions. Alexandre and Julien, alongside fellow classmates, took a measured approach to preserve their vehicle, opting for a gentle drive toward Biarritz, with stops in picturesque towns like Amboise and Bordeaux.
Upon arrival at the starting point, the duo underwent vehicle checks and contributed food supplies to the Red Cross. "We wanted to start our journey a little lighter, so we packed about 12 kilos of food for donation," Alexandre recalled. However, as they ventured further, mechanical issues began to arise. Following advice from experienced mechanics, they replaced two rear shock absorbers to ensure their Renault 4L was ready for the rugged roads ahead.
Despite the initial excitement, the road to Spain was fraught with challenges, including sub-zero temperatures and the infamous storm Pedro, which caused the official start to be delayed. Undeterred, the teams drove their 4Ls toward Spain, where they encountered more issues, including a loss of power due to a faulty spark plug. Nevertheless, the journey continued as they crossed into the Moroccan desert, where the sight of hundreds of unique 4Ls at the first bivouac was awe-inspiring.
Throughout their travels, Alexandre and Julien faced numerous mechanical setbacks, including a significant incident where their car started emitting smoke, signaling a serious engine problem. With oil contaminating the coolant, it became clear that their adventure was coming to an abrupt end, forcing them to leave their car behind in Spain and return home by plane.
Reflecting on the experience, Alexandre shared, "This journey truly pushed us out of our comfort zones. It was an unforgettable adventure that will provide us with stories to tell for years to come." Their adventure in the 4L Trophy, despite its abrupt conclusion, will remain a cherished memory that shaped their perspectives on resilience and teamwork.
