The recent collapse of a residential building in the Ain Nakbi district of Fez, Morocco, has tragically resulted in a death toll that has now risen to 14 individuals. This alarming update was reported by the Hespress news portal, which cited medical representatives from the city’s healthcare facilities. In addition to the fatalities, six other individuals sustained injuries, with several being in critical condition, highlighting the severe impact of this unfortunate incident.

Emergency services have swiftly transported both the deceased and the injured to the regional city hospital, as well as the Hassan II University Hospital, ensuring that those affected receive immediate medical attention. Initially, reports indicated that nine individuals had perished in the building's collapse, but as the situation has developed, the grim reality has become clearer with the confirmed increase in fatalities.

Adib Benibrahim, a representative from the Moroccan Ministry of National, Urban Planning, Housing, and Urban Policy, has pointed to illegal construction practices as a significant factor contributing to the building's collapse. In light of this tragedy, the prosecutor's office at the city’s court of appeal has initiated a comprehensive investigation aimed at uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the incident. This inquiry seeks to address the failures that led to the loss of life and to ensure accountability for those responsible.
