Rescue Operations Underway After Six-Story Building Collapse

The tragic collapse of a six-story residential building in the Ain Nqbi neighborhood of the Jnan El Ward district in Fes has resulted in a devastating toll of 14 confirmed fatalities. In addition to the deceased, five individuals have sustained injuries, with two of them reported to be in critical condition. This alarming report comes from reliable sources present at the scene of the disaster.

From the early hours of Thursday morning, a significant alert has been declared, mobilizing various security forces, local authorities, and civil protection teams. These agencies have allocated substantial human and logistical resources to continue the search operations under the rubble, amidst fears that other potential victims may still be trapped beneath the debris.

Search and Investigation Efforts Intensify

According to the available information, 19 individuals have been rescued from the wreckage, including women and children. The injured have been transported to the Hassan II University Hospital for urgent medical care, while the bodies of the deceased have been placed in the morgue of the regional Al-Ghassani Hospital.

Search and rescue efforts have persisted for several hours, involving specialized teams trained to navigate through the debris. Simultaneously, authorities have enforced a security perimeter around the collapsed building, evacuating residents from nearby homes as a precautionary measure to protect them from potential further collapses.

Preliminary reports indicate that the building had previously been listed among structures considered at risk of collapse, and evacuation orders had been issued regarding it. This revelation raises significant questions about how the building continued to be occupied despite its hazardous condition.

In conjunction with ongoing efforts at the site, relevant authorities have launched an investigation under the supervision of the public prosecutor to ascertain the precise circumstances surrounding this tragedy and to uncover the underlying causes of the building's collapse, as well as to determine any potential liabilities associated with this incident.
