By the time he reached Kinshasa on August 5, Miguel had already successfully covered over 6,500 kilometers after 67 days on the road. He resumed his journey on September 6, heading towards Congo-Brazzaville, but his expedition was cut short abruptly on September 18 in Ouesso. His older sister, Ornella Masaïsaï, recounted the heartbreaking moment the family learned of his passing, stating, "The passport found next to the body was Miguel's." Following the repatriation of his remains, Miguel's coffin was received at the Ngobila beach before being transported to the morgue of the Cinquantenaire Hospital. His death also sparked the circulation of false information on TikTok, erroneously claiming that he had arrived in Cameroon.
