Significant Infrastructure Developments in Bouregreg Valley
The Bouregreg Valley is undergoing a remarkable transformation as extensive infrastructure projects unfold between the cities of Rabat and Salé. Among the key developments are a rail tunnel designed for the future high-speed train line connecting Kénitra and Marrakech, and a new pedestrian bridge intended to enhance connectivity across the river.
Commissioned by the National Office of Railways (ONCF), the rail tunnel will stretch 3.3 kilometers, linking the Bouregreg Valley to the Rabat-Agdal station. This crucial infrastructure is part of the broader expansion of high-speed rail services aimed at enhancing the transportation network along the Atlantic corridor.
The project features a dual-track single-tube tunnel measuring 2,750 meters, which will transition into a 50-meter open section and then into a covered trench with four tracks extending for 500 meters as it approaches Rabat-Agdal. This design ensures that the new high-speed tracks can be integrated seamlessly into a densely populated urban environment while connecting with existing railway infrastructure.
Enhancing Urban Mobility with a New Pedestrian Bridge
In addition to the railway infrastructure, the Bouregreg Valley is also seeing the development of new amenities aimed at promoting soft mobility. The Agency for the Development of the Bouregreg Valley (AAVB) is working on a pedestrian bridge that will facilitate continuous pathways between Rabat and Salé.
This structure will be an elevated walkway spanning the river, supported by foundations embedded in the riverbed. It will also feature platforms at both ends to provide resting and observation spaces for walkers, offering a scenic view of the surrounding area.
These projects collectively contribute to a dual transformation of the Bouregreg Valley: enhancing national railway capabilities while simultaneously improving local pedestrian pathways and connectivity across the river.
