Tuba Büyüküstün to Chair International Jury at Marrakech Short Film Festival
Renowned Turkish actress Tuba Büyüküstün is set to make a significant appearance in Morocco, where she will assume the role of chair for the international jury at the sixth edition of the Marrakech Short Film Festival. This prestigious event is scheduled to take place from September 25 to 30, 2026. As a prominent figure in the film industry, Büyüküstün continues to expand her cinematic presence, and this opportunity marks another milestone in her illustrious career.
In her capacity as jury chair, Tuba Büyüküstün will collaborate with three other distinguished names from the international cinema scene to evaluate a total of 17 films that are competing in the festival's international section. The panel includes British director and writer Charlotte Regan, along with Alice Khroubi, who is the program director and selection committee member for the Cannes and Red Sea Film Festivals, as well as Daniela Stefan.
In addition to her role in the jury, Büyüküstün is also slated to deliver a keynote speech during the festival's accompanying program. This engagement serves as a continuation of her judging experience, following her participation in the juries of the Red Sea International Film Festival in 2024 and the Asia International Film Festival in Mumbai in 2025, as reported by "Al Jazeera Net".
Tuba Büyüküstün's selection to lead the jury coincides with her return to the cinematic landscape through her latest film "Sultanah," which premiered on Prime Video on September 17, 2026. The film unfolds in a nightclub setting in Istanbul, enveloped in an atmosphere of rivalry and conflict.
However, her cinematic contributions do not end with "Sultanah." Tuba is also preparing for the release of her horror-thriller film "Sui," set to hit Turkish cinemas on October 9, 2026. This film explores a mysterious curse that transcends generations, compelling the characters to confront their past. The cast includes Barış Arduç and Farah Zeynep Abdullah, with direction by Maxim Alexander.
Serving on juries is not new territory for Tuba, who embarked on her artistic journey after studying theater and costume design at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University. She made her acting debut in 2004 and has since garnered widespread fame both in Turkey and internationally.
Throughout her career, Tuba has seamlessly transitioned between television dramas, cinema, and digital platforms while maintaining a consistent presence at international festivals. In Marrakech, she will once again take on the significant responsibility of leading an international jury, participating in the evaluation of films and selecting winners, alongside her involvement in the festival's program.
On the drama front, Tuba's most recent television work was the series "Another Self," which concluded its third and final season on Netflix on June 24, 2026. In this series, she portrayed the character "Ada," alongside Seda Bakan and Büşra Develi, spanning three seasons.
Prior to "Another Self," Tuba featured in the 2024 mini-series "As If Tomorrow Won't Come" alongside Halit Ergenç, a four-episode series that aired on the GAIN platform. Her last long-running television project was "The Ambassador's Daughter" in 2021, where she participated in the second season.
Since then, her focus has shifted significantly toward digital and cinematic endeavors, and the upcoming months will witness her robust return to the big screen with "Sultanah" followed by "Sui," all while presiding over the international jury at the Marrakech festival.
