Remarkable Growth in UK Exports to Morocco
As of August 17, 2026, it has been reported that British exports of goods to Morocco reached an impressive £2.153 billion in the first half of 2026. This figure marks a significant increase of 45% compared to the £1.486 billion recorded for the entire year of 2025. Recent data released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) on August 13 highlights this remarkable growth trajectory. In the first half of 2025, the UK had exported goods worth £745 million to Morocco, but just a year later, the amount has nearly tripled, reflecting a staggering increase of approximately 189%.
The acceleration in exports was particularly pronounced in the second quarter of 2026, with £1.295 billion worth of goods being exported between April and June, compared to only £367 million during the same period the previous year. Notably, the months of May and June alone accounted for £1.16 billion of British goods shipped to Morocco, with exports of £581 million and £579 million respectively. This rapid growth indicates that in just two months, the UK sold nearly as much to Morocco as it did throughout the entire year of 2024, when exports totalled £1.292 billion.
Transformative Shift in Trade Balance
The latest detailed breakdown provided by the UK government reveals that crude oil was the leading export from the UK to Morocco, amounting to £630.6 million. Other significant exports included metals and metal waste, generators and mechanical equipment, refined petroleum products, and vehicles. However, the data does not yet pinpoint the specific products responsible for the extraordinary surge observed in May and June.
The transformation in the trade balance is striking. In the first half of 2025, the UK exported £745 million worth of goods to Morocco while importing £859 million in Moroccan goods, resulting in a trade surplus of approximately £114 million for Morocco. Fast forward to a year later, the situation has flipped dramatically: the UK now exports £2.153 billion to Morocco, while its imports from Morocco amount to £952 million. This development has resulted in the UK achieving a surplus of around £1.2 billion, showcasing a significant shift in the trading dynamics between the two nations.
