Upcoming Global Francophonie Scientific Week Set for October in Agadir

Global Francophonie Scientific Week to Take Place in Agadir

The 6th edition of the Global Francophonie Scientific Week (SMFS), organized by the Agence universitaire de la francophonie (AUF), is scheduled to occur from October 12 to 15, 2026, in Agadir, Morocco, as indicated in a recent press release. The previous edition, held in November 2025, took place in Dakar alongside the 19th General Assembly of the AUF. The announcement highlighted key aspects of the upcoming event, which will feature the Scientific Francophonie Assemblies, the 6th Ministerial Conference, the 4th Youth Congress, and a program focused on cooperation.

This year's theme centers on the role of Francophone scientific diplomacy in addressing global geopolitical challenges. The AUF specifies that this theme will be explored through four main programs during the SMFS: the political and scientific dimensions will be discussed in the Ministerial Conference on Education and Research, as well as the Scientific Francophonie Assemblies. Cooperation-related topics will be addressed through thematic workshops that will gather all academic stakeholders and professionals, while issues pertinent to youth will be handled by the Francophone Student Youth Congress.

As noted by the AUF, the event will attract around thirty ministers responsible for higher education from the Francophone community, alongside more than 300 educators, researchers, students, and key figures from the scientific and educational ecosystem. In total, participants representing over 60 nationalities are expected to convene in Agadir.

The Global Francophonie Scientific Week is recognized as the premier annual meeting dedicated to promoting and enhancing the value of science, research, and higher education in the French language. It serves as a platform uniting all stakeholders involved in higher education and research—including policymakers, educators, students, and public and private partners—around a specific scientific theme relevant to the Francophone space.
