US Participation at the 2026 Marrakech Airshow
In a significant display of military collaboration, the United States Department of War will actively participate in the 2026 Marrakech Airshow, which is scheduled to take place from October 7 to 10 at the Royal Moroccan Air Force Base in Marrakech. This year’s event will feature an impressive flyover by two F-35A Lightning II fighter jets, showcasing cutting-edge military technology and the strong ties between the US and Morocco. Approximately 45 military personnel from the US will be present at the airshow, emphasizing the importance of this biennial event.
Highlighting Military Cooperation
The aerial demonstration will include two F-35As from the 48th Fighter Wing stationed at RAF Lakenheath in the United Kingdom, complemented by an HC-130J Super Hercules from the 176th Wing at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Alaska, along with a KC-135 Stratotanker from the Utah National Guard, which will be featured in a static display. The US's involvement comes as Morocco celebrates the eighth edition of this prestigious airshow, bringing together nearly 200 exhibitors from 27 countries along with over 250 high-level civilian and military delegations. The United Arab Emirates has been designated as the strategic partner for this year’s event, which emphasizes themes such as industrial sovereignty, resilient supply chains, advanced defense systems, artificial intelligence, and satellite technology.
This airshow has established itself as a vital platform for Morocco's growing aerospace and defense industries. Notably, the previous edition in 2024 saw participation from 300 exhibitors and more than 75 official delegations, occupying 12,500 square meters of exhibition space. The US military's presence underscores the long-standing aviation relationship between Washington and Rabat, characterized by regular training and operational collaboration involving aircraft like the F-16 Fighting Falcon and C-130 Hercules. Joint missions conducted during the annual Exercise African Lion exemplify this partnership, where Moroccan pilots benefit from in-flight refueling support from US KC-135 Stratotankers, enhancing their capabilities for extended-range operations.
Brig. Gen. Matthew French, the Assistant to the Commander of USAFE-AFAFRICA, highlighted the significance of the airshow, positioning it as a prelude to the upcoming 250th anniversary of the US-Moroccan alliance. He expressed his honor at being part of this event, emphasizing its role in fostering strong and enduring alliances and partnerships. US Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan III echoed these sentiments, describing the airshow as a testament to the nearly 250-year relationship between the two nations. He noted the extensive history of joint flying, pilot training, and military operations that have characterized the US-Moroccan partnership since Morocco became the first nation to recognize US independence.
Nearly 250 years later, the collaboration continues to thrive, focusing on mutual interests in regional peace and security. The US delegation views the airshow as an invaluable opportunity for pilots, maintainers, and security professionals to engage face-to-face, exchange innovative ideas, and strengthen their operational ties further. This ongoing partnership not only reflects a deep-rooted historical connection but also symbolizes a commitment to future cooperation in defense and security matters.
