The prestigious Versailles Prize has recently announced its 2026 selection of the world's most beautiful airports, and notably, no Moroccan airport has made the list. This marks a significant shift, especially considering that just six years ago, the Terminal 1 of Casablanca-Mohammed V Airport was honored with this distinction.
Presented as a global recognition of architectural and design excellence, the Versailles Prize has unveiled the winners of its twelfth edition. In the airport category, seven outstanding infrastructures have been selected this year, with notable projects located in China, Germany, India, Cambodia, and the United States. Unfortunately for Morocco, it finds itself absent from the 2026 selection, highlighting a stark contrast to previous years.
The current list notably features the Terminal 3 of the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, Terminal 3 of Frankfurt Airport, two Indian airports in Guwahati and Navi Mumbai, the Techo International Airport in Phnom Penh, along with the airports of Pittsburgh and San Diego. Frankfurt stands out as the sole European representative in this edition.
This absence of Moroccan representation is particularly striking when compared to the achievements of 2020, when the Terminal 1 of Casablanca-Mohammed V Airport was included in the global selection of the Versailles Prize for Airports. Since then, no Moroccan airport has managed to reclaim its place in this prestigious category, even as several countries invest heavily in transforming their terminals into architectural and tourist showcases.
