Frequent Water Supply Interruptions in Fez Stir Public Discontent
Residents of several neighborhoods in Fez have been facing significant disruptions in their water supply since Wednesday evening, a situation that has exacerbated the struggles of the community during an ongoing heatwave. The interruptions have manifested in severe drops in water pressure and, in certain areas, complete outages. The regional multi-service company, Fès-Meknès, attributed these disruptions to a sudden break in the main water pipeline originating from the Idriss I dam. Furthermore, other sources have indicated that a ground subsidence in the Benjlik area has impacted two crucial pipelines responsible for supplying the city with water.
As of now, the company has not provided a timeline for the full restoration of water services in the affected areas, merely issuing apologies for the inconvenience caused and urging residents to conserve water. This marks the third incident of this kind involving the same pipeline within the past year, raising concerns regarding the infrastructure's readiness to handle peak demand during the summer months.
