Weekly Report on Traffic Accidents in Morocco
According to the latest statistics released by the Directorate General of National Security, a total of 45 fatalities were recorded, alongside 3,219 injuries, with 115 of those injuries classified as severe, during the week from August 3 to August 9, 2026. These incidents occurred across 2,341 traffic accidents within urban areas, highlighting a disturbing trend in road safety.
The primary causes of these accidents were identified, in order of their frequency, as driver inattention, failure to yield the right of way, pedestrian negligence, excessive speed, loss of vehicle control, unauthorized lane changes, insufficient safety distance, failure to signal lane changes, disregard for stop signs, improper positioning in the roadway, non-compliance with traffic lights, reckless overtaking, driving under the influence of alcohol, and traveling in prohibited directions.
In terms of law enforcement measures, security forces managed to record 52,028 traffic violations, resulting in 8,125 reports submitted to the public prosecutor. Additionally, fines totaling 9,360,350 dirhams were collected, while 5,505 vehicles were impounded, and 8,125 documents were confiscated, alongside the suspension of 565 vehicles. These figures underscore the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in maintaining road safety and ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.
