Devastating Wild Boar Attack in Jerfif Region
In a shocking incident that stirred both fear and outrage in the "Saka" area of the Jerfif region, several agricultural farms were brutally attacked by a herd of wild boars early on Friday, August 21. These wild boars wreaked havoc, particularly targeting fruit-bearing trees, causing significant damage to the local farms.
According to information obtained by Al Mayadeen, a pomegranate farm suffered the brunt of the destruction during this attack, with the wild boars causing extensive physical damage to the property. In a rather startling display, the herd was also observed swimming in a large plastic reservoir intended for irrigating the trees, as evidenced by the accompanying video.
Impact on Agriculture and Local Livelihoods
It is important to note that wild boar attacks on fields and farms in various regions of Morocco, including Jerfif, Agadir, and Fkih Ben Salah, pose a significant threat to agricultural yields and the livelihoods of farmers. The rapid reproduction of these wild boars, coupled with the absence of their natural predators in some areas, has resulted in an alarming increase in their population. Farmers in these regions have repeatedly expressed their frustration, urging the water and forest authorities, as well as local governing bodies, to intervene promptly and devise a long-term strategy to protect agricultural lands and local communities from the ongoing threat posed by these wild boar herds.
