In a disturbing scene that has sparked both fear and outrage among residents of the "Saka" region in the Jerfif province, numerous agricultural plots faced a horrific attack by a wild boar herd in the early hours of Friday, August 21. This unexpected incursion resulted in significant damage to various crops, particularly targeting fruit-bearing trees.
According to information obtained by Al Mayadeen, a pomegranate farm suffered the brunt of the destruction inflicted by the wild boars, as the herd wreaked havoc on the land, leaving behind severe material damage. Notably, the boars displayed unusual behavior by swimming in a large plastic reservoir intended for irrigating the trees, an action captured in an accompanying video.
It is important to note that wild boar attacks on fields and agricultural plots across various regions of Morocco, including Jerfif, Agadir, and Fkih Ben Salah, pose a significant threat to crops and the livelihoods of farmers. The rapid increase in the wild boar population, combined with the absence of natural predators in certain areas, has led to escalating frustrations among farmers. Many have repeatedly expressed their grievances to the water and forestry authorities and local governments, urging immediate intervention and the implementation of long-term strategies to protect farms and local communities from the relentless assaults of wild boar herds.
