Xavi Hernandez Reveals Interest from Morocco to Coach National Team
In recent remarks, renowned Spanish coach Xavi Hernandez disclosed that he has received multiple coaching offers, including one from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation to take charge of the national team. This announcement comes as part of a broader discussion about the growing recognition of his coaching abilities, which he considers a compliment to his career journey. Xavi expressed his delight in receiving such interest, stating, "Indeed, I have received several offers lately, including one from Morocco, along with others from various countries. This pleases me as it confirms that my work is appreciated."
As the former Barcelona manager, Xavi elaborated on the challenges of coaching at the club level, describing it as an extremely demanding job that requires daily commitment and continuous pressure, often making it difficult to balance professional responsibilities with family life. He mentioned that the prospect of coaching a national team appears to be an appealing option, as it allows for more preparation and tactical work, alongside the opportunity to spend more time with loved ones.
Additionally, the 46-year-old former international highlighted that competing in major tournaments remains a significant motivation for any coach. He pointed out that participating in prestigious events such as the World Cup, the UEFA European Championship, or even the Africa Cup of Nations represents exciting challenges that encourage him to seriously contemplate a future in coaching national teams.
On a related note, Spanish media reports indicated that the Moroccan national team has been considering several coaching options to succeed former coach Walid Regragui, with Xavi Hernandez and Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli among the top contenders before ultimately deciding on Mohamed Wahbi. According to the Spanish newspaper Marca, Sampaoli was also a strong candidate to lead the Moroccan team, having held discussions with officials from the Royal Moroccan Football Federation regarding the possibility of taking charge of the "Atlas Lions" in the lead-up to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held next summer in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
