Young African Storytellers Gather in Rabat for Artistic Residency

From March 23 to March 28, 2026, an inspiring initiative has brought together thirty young storytellers from various African nations to Rabat, Morocco. This artistic residency, organized by 'Story School' in collaboration with the Franco-African Foundation, aims to rethink and rejuvenate narratives concerning the African continent. The program is designed to foster new perspectives on Africa’s present and future through a series of high-level training sessions, collaborative workshops, and creative sessions led by international experts from cultural and media sectors.

With nearly 1,900 applications received from across the continent and its diasporas, the program reflects the vibrant enthusiasm and commitment of a generation eager to reshape the storytelling landscape of Africa. This significant interest highlights the determination of young creatives to transform existing narratives and present Africa in a new light. Following a rigorous selection process conducted by an international jury comprised of media professionals and cultural industry leaders, thirty participants were chosen for the inaugural cohort of the Young African Storytellers program, known as KESSA.

Empowering a New Generation of African Creatives

The selected storytellers represent a diverse array of backgrounds, including cultural industries, entrepreneurship, technology, cinema and television, journalism, museum studies, and urban culture. Through this first edition of the program, the organizers aim to identify, train, and unite storytellers capable of redefining the imaginations associated with Africa, amplifying their narratives both on the continent and internationally. By generating original works that will be distributed through a pan-African campaign, this residency seeks to celebrate and elevate a new generation of African creative talents across various fields.
