Young Moroccan Student Publishes Her Debut Novel 'Epic of the Past'

Young Talent Makes Waves with Literary Debut

At just thirteen years old, Moroccan student Nour Al-Huda Damraoui has taken a significant step in her literary journey by publishing her first novel, titled "Epic of the Past." This remarkable achievement is a product of her extensive reading and the encouragement she received from her family, school, and various initiatives, including the National Reading Project, where she competed alongside other youth in literature and book reading.

In an interview with Hespress, the writer's father, Idris Damraoui, shared that Nour Al-Huda's foray into writing was sparked by her passion for reading novels, which was greatly influenced by her Arabic language teacher in the first year of middle school, Dr. Mohamed Asrar. He noted, "Nour Al-Huda's journey began with the 'National Reading Project' and the 'Arab Reading Challenge,' where she qualified nationally on two occasions. She earned the title of eloquent speaker for the Fez-Meknes region in Arabic and consistently excelled in reading and academics, representing the Boulemane region in the Children's Parliament."

Her father further elaborated on the initiative that fueled her love for writing: "In the sixth grade of primary school, she contributed an article to her school's publication, and this is where the idea took root." He added that during her first year of middle school, her enthusiasm for reading novels grew, and under the guidance of her teacher, Asrar, she excelled nationally, securing first place in the National Reading Project for the Fez-Meknes region. This recognition prompted her to take the leap into writing, resulting in her novel, "Epic of the Past," while she continues to work on two additional manuscripts.

Nour Al-Huda's talents extend beyond novel writing; she has published contributions in electronic magazines such as "Al-Harf Wal Kalima" and "Naboulis Cultural," alongside other narrative writings. The encouragement for her debut novel's publication came from the National Human Rights Association in the Fez region, which aims to promote youth creativity. Additionally, her teacher Asrar submitted her manuscript to Dar Kunoz Al-Ma’rifa, which reviewed and subsequently published it.

In her new literary work, readers encounter poignant reflections, as demonstrated in a powerful excerpt: "He smiled a bitter smile, mocking himself. He took the pen and began to write, but he was not merely writing words; he was chronicling his pain, his shattered hopes, and pivotal moments in a life crushed by reality. He wrote about his first encounter, the desires hidden behind words, the laughter that once filled the space, and that fateful day when he discovered that everything he had dreamed was nothing but a false hope."
