Casablanca Faces Noise Disruption from Illegal Motorcycle Events
In Casablanca, particularly in certain neighborhoods, the tranquility of the night is continuously shattered by the sound of modified motorcycles engaging in reckless, illegal activities. Residents have voiced their frustrations regarding the disturbances that these nocturnal motorcycle rallies bring to their communities. Nabil, a resident of Boulevard Zerktouni, expressed that the situation has become "difficult to bear," as the noise is not sporadic but rather a persistent issue that disrupts sleep. He notes that motorcycles zoom past at late hours, equipped with exceptionally loud engines, making rest nearly impossible for those living in the vicinity.
Mohamed, another affected resident living on Boulevard Abdellatif Benkaddour, echoed similar sentiments. He reported that nightly, he is bombarded by the sounds of vehicles with modified engines that exceed 80 decibels around 3 AM, a level of noise that is disruptive, if not downright alarming. This makeshift measurement, while not officially recognized, underscores the severity of the issue. Fatiha, who previously lived on Boulevard Zerktouni with her elderly parents, recounted how the disturbance starts at midnight and continues throughout the night, leaving her and her family in a constant state of unrest. Even after multiple calls to the police, she reports little to no improvement in the situation. Now residing near the busway and tramway in CFC, she finds herself grappling with the same relentless noise.
The General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) has asserted that urban rodeos are diminishing due to the implementation of surveillance cameras and delayed arrests. However, despite these claims, many residents remain unconvinced, as the nocturnal disturbances persist unabated. The ongoing struggle against these illegal motorcycle gatherings highlights broader concerns about public safety and community well-being in Casablanca.
