USFP Launches Legislative Campaign with Passion and Purpose
Last Thursday, the ochre city of Marrakech resonated with the powerful words of Driss Lachguar, the First Secretary of the Union of Socialist Forces (USFP). He officially launched the party's campaign for the upcoming legislative elections scheduled for September 23rd, addressing a packed audience that showcased the fervor and enthusiasm of the attendees. This overwhelming turnout was a testament to the public's commitment to the ittihadi project, its electoral program, and its candidates in the constituencies of Marrakech Prefecture and Rehamna Province. Lachguar's speech was a blend of irony and seriousness, as he emphasized that the electoral demands presented by the USFP were not spontaneous; they were the same concerns that the Socialist Group had persistently defended within Parliament and the Finance Committee, despite the government’s attempts to dismiss them. He pointed out the hypocrisy of the current majority, which, just weeks before the end of their term, is making promises to voters that they have actively opposed during their five years in power.
Exposing the Government's Deception and Calling for Voter Action
As the tone of his address sharpened, Lachguar criticized ruling parties for offering insincere promises to the people. He directly engaged with the citizens present, stating that their attendance was a powerful warning against such deceptive practices, urging them to reject lies, deceit, and manipulation, and to hold the government accountable on September 23rd. He further condemned the disintegration of the governing coalition, which, despite claiming unwavering unity for five years, has devolved into a spectacle of mutual accusations and blame-shifting as the elections approach. Lachguar labeled this behavior as a blatant act of deception that has harmed the country, its future, and its reputation, highlighting the evident irresponsibility displayed by the ruling parties.
Using a popular saying to mock the late rivalries among former allies, he suggested that divine providence had led these parties to betray themselves through their own words, turning their alliance into a public display of scandals and insults. Lachguar asserted that all components of the government share responsibility for the outcomes of their actions, urging citizens to remain vigilant against this blatant misinformation campaign. He called on Moroccans to head to the polls to demonstrate to the three implicated parties that they have worsened their circumstances without addressing the issues at hand.
Additionally, he encouraged citizens to support candidates from a party with a legacy of struggle dating back to the resistance against colonialism. According to him, the USFP activists, across generations, have paid the price for their commitment to the just causes of the people, as evidenced by the Equity and Reconciliation Commission report that highlighted those who made significant sacrifices for freedom, dignity, justice, and democracy. Lachguar also denounced what he termed the 'hijacking' of his party's electoral program, which was unveiled during a press conference, only to see other parties replicate it with minor adjustments, reflecting their inability to present a genuine, innovative project.
Concluding his remarks, he called upon the men and women of Marrakech to make September 23rd a pivotal date for sanctioning their vote, urging them to cast their ballots for the candidates of the Rose, the enduring symbol of the Union of Socialist Forces. The gathering, moderated by Miloudia Hazib, a member of the Political Bureau, also served as a platform to outline the key aspects of the electoral program, elaborated by Kamal El Hachoumi, another Political Bureau member. The candidates representing the ittihadi lists for the Marrakech Prefecture and Rehamna Province were introduced, including Lahcen Zalmate for the Medina-Sidi Youssef Ben Ali constituency, Mohamed El Akroud for the Guéliz-Nakhil constituency, Toufik Essamoud for the Ménara constituency, Khadija El Akroud, the representative for the regional women's list, and Hamid El Akroud for the Rehamna constituency.
