In Morocco, a new era of last-mile delivery is on the horizon as Fiat introduces the Tris, a modern homage to the iconic Italian three-wheeled vehicle, the Ape. This innovative vehicle is already making waves in the Moroccan market just two years after Piaggio discontinued the Ape in Europe. The Fiat Tris is based on the electric microcar Topolino, which is also available under the Citroën Ami and Opel Rocks brands, and boasts a distinctive design that pays tribute to its predecessor while offering a fresh approach to urban logistics.
The Tris is manufactured in Morocco and has already hit the market, showcasing its potential as a practical solution for businesses and individuals needing efficient transport options. Fiat has confirmed plans to export the Tris to Europe next year, with anticipated pricing around €10,000, positioning it as one of the most affordable utility vehicles available.
This compact three-wheeler measures just over three meters in length and features a flatbed capable of accommodating a standard European pallet. However, the cabin is equipped with a small bench that can only fit two passengers, making it ideal for short trips rather than family outings. With a payload capacity of 540 kilograms, the Tris can carry more than its own weight, thanks to its robust metal frame and lightweight plastic body. For those transporting delicate items, Fiat offers the option of sideboards for added security.
Powering the Tris is a 9 kW (12 HP) electric motor located at the rear, drawing energy from a 6.9 kWh battery that provides a standard range of 90 kilometers on a single charge. While it is not designed for speed enthusiasts, the Tris has a maximum speed capped at 45 km/h, which allows even 15-year-olds with an AM driving license to operate it safely.
Charging the Tris is straightforward, as it can be plugged into a standard household outlet with a maximum output of 1.6 kW. This means that a fully depleted battery can be recharged to 80% in approximately 3.5 hours, making it convenient for daily use.
