Morocco's Airports Welcome Over 29 Million Passengers in 2026: A Significant Rise

Morocco's Airport Traffic Surges by 8.74% in 2026

In an impressive display of growth, Morocco's airports have welcomed over 29.33 million travelers during the first nine months of 2026, marking an increase of 8.74% compared to the same period in 2025. This remarkable rise highlights the resilience and appeal of Morocco as a prime travel destination, underscored by robust international and domestic air traffic.

The National Airports Office of Morocco reported that international air traffic alone surged by 8.73%, reaching a total of 26.15 million passengers. Domestic travel also saw a positive trend, rising by 8.88% to accommodate 3.18 million passengers. The figures reflect the ongoing recovery of the tourism sector, which has been pivotal to Morocco's economy.

The traffic at Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca led the charge with 9.35 million passengers, followed closely by Marrakech-Menara Airport, which recorded 8.11 million. Other notable contributors to the passenger numbers included Agadir-Al Massira Airport with approximately 2.8 million passengers, Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport at 2.32 million, and Rabat-Salé Airport with around 1.9 million passengers, according to the Moroccan News Agency.

Driving this upward trend in international air traffic is the strong performance of the European market, which remains the largest source of travelers to Morocco. European travelers accounted for approximately 21.66 million passengers, achieving an annual growth rate of 9.05%. Additionally, South American and North American markets also displayed considerable growth, with increases of 33.48% to 81.2 thousand passengers and 13.23% to 771.9 thousand passengers, respectively. African markets also contributed positively, growing by 13.62% to reach 1.6 million travelers. In contrast, air traffic from the Middle East and Asia experienced a slight decline of 1.8%, totaling 1.65 million passengers.

By the end of September 2026, Moroccan airports recorded a total of 214.6 thousand aircraft movements, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 9.7%. Mohammed V Airport topped this activity with approximately 73.2 thousand movements, followed by Marrakech-Menara with around 53.2 thousand and Agadir-Al Massira with about 19 thousand movements. The air cargo sector also demonstrated growth, with 83.7 thousand tons of freight transported during the first nine months of the year, marking a significant increase of 14.29% compared to the same timeframe in 2025.
