Casablanca Hosts the Spectacular 17th Edition of the Credit du Maroc Marathon

The vibrant city of Casablanca, Morocco, became the focal point of athletic excellence as it hosted the 17th edition of the Credit du Maroc Casablanca Marathon on Sunday, October 25, 2026. This remarkable event witnessed nearly 9,000 enthusiastic runners crossing the finish line, demonstrating the growing popularity and participation in this prestigious marathon. Organized by the Association of Runners of Greater Casablanca (ACGC), the marathon attracted an impressive total of 14,000 participants from 88 different nationalities, further solidifying its reputation as an international sporting event.

This year’s marathon was particularly notable for the establishment of three new records: one in the men's marathon, one in the women's marathon, and one in the women’s half marathon, showcasing the incredible talent and competitive spirit of the athletes involved. In the men's category, Kenyan runner Daniel Kiprono Sang emerged victorious, completing the classic distance of 42.195 km in an astonishing time of 2 hours, 6 minutes, and 41 seconds. He was closely followed by compatriot Edwin Kiprop Kiptoo and Ethiopian Mandefro Workineh Tadese, both of whom also delivered commendable performances.

In the women's race, Ethiopian athlete Ayalew Bere clinched the top spot with an impressive time of 2 hours, 25 minutes, and 21 seconds. Moroccan runner Soukaina Atanane showcased her talent by finishing in second place with a remarkable time of 2 hours, 26 minutes, and 40 seconds, highlighting the strong presence of Moroccan athletes in this elite competition. The event not only showcased individual achievements but also celebrated the collective spirit of runners from diverse backgrounds.

Impressive Performances in the Half Marathon

The half marathon distance of 21.1 km also saw outstanding performances, particularly from Moroccan athletes. Yakoub Labquira took the lead in the men’s category, finishing in an impressive time of 1 hour, 1 minute, and 21 seconds, ahead of Kenyan Shadrack Korir Kipyegon and Ugandan Martin Magengo Kiprotich. Meanwhile, in the women’s half marathon, Fatiha Asmid dominated the field with a remarkable finish time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, and 22 seconds, followed closely by her compatriots Meryeme Azrour and Kaoutar Farkoussi, marking a significant milestone with a new record for the women's half marathon.

This edition of the marathon set a new benchmark in terms of participation, with over 30% more finishers compared to the previous year, which saw only 6,700 runners completing the race. The success of this year’s marathon was bolstered by the unwavering support of local authorities and the mobilization of more than 1,500 law enforcement personnel ensuring the safety and security of the event. For the first time, participants benefited from free tram and bus services on the morning of the race, an initiative that contributed to the smooth flow of the event.
