Legal Troubles for Moroccan Star Achraf Hakimi
As the Moroccan national team competes for glory in the ongoing FIFA World Cup, Achraf Hakimi, the celebrated defender, is also facing significant legal challenges in France. The Versailles Court of Appeals has announced that Hakimi will be required to appear before the criminal court in the Hauts-de-Seine department in connection with allegations of rape. However, a specific date for this court appearance has yet to be established. The 27-year-old former Borussia Dortmund player, who is currently showcasing his talents at the World Cup in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, has consistently denied the allegations, asserting that he is a victim of slander. At a hearing in May, Hakimi sought to have the case dismissed.
Hakimi's Response to Allegations
In his own words, Hakimi expressed his frustration and determination on social media, stating, "The justice system looked me in the eye and said: 'If you weren't famous, this case would never have existed.' For years, I chose to remain silent, believing it was right to maintain dignity, be patient, and trust the judicial process to make the right decisions." He is currently under contract with Paris Saint-Germain, a Champions League-winning team. Hakimi further elaborated, "Today, a story is being told that is not mine, at the expense of my family, my life, and especially the truth. Sometimes I feel like I have become an easy target. I have been waiting for this trial since day one, and now I eagerly anticipate it. Finally, I will be able to speak." These statements highlight his resolve as he faces the serious accusations against him.
In February 2023, a 24-year-old woman reported to the police that Hakimi had raped her; however, she initially did not file a formal complaint. Hakimi's legal representatives have accused the woman of obstructing the investigation and refusing medical examinations.
