On July 21, 2026, to commemorate the 27th anniversary of His Majesty King Mohammed VI's accession to the Throne, Aziz Akhannouch, the Head of Government and President of the Agadir Municipal Council, along with Said Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region, inaugurated four new cultural, social, and sports facilities across various neighborhoods in Agadir. These developments are part of the Urban Development Program for Agadir 2020-2024, which was launched by His Majesty in February 2020.
The tour commenced at the Sheikh Maa El Aïnine Cultural Complex located in the Lakhiam neighborhood, which has been rehabilitated to provide a dedicated space for cultural, artistic, and community activities. This facility significantly enhances the local cultural offerings for residents of the neighborhood and surrounding areas.
In the Amsernat neighborhood, a social activities complex was inaugurated. This two-story building, covering an area of 950 square meters and featuring 1,500 square meters of covered space, offers dedicated areas for supervision, training, and social activities, catering to the needs of various segments of the population.
Meanwhile, in the Riad Salam neighborhood, a women's center and youth house were integrated into a single facility, providing complementary functions. Spanning 750 square meters of built space and 1,850 square meters of covered area over three levels, this facility offers training and support spaces for women and youth, as well as areas designated for educational and social activities.
Inauguration of a Semi-Olympic Swimming Pool
The tour concluded with the inauguration of the Al Wifaq semi-Olympic swimming pool in Bensergao, which covers an impressive 2,300 square meters of indoor space, complemented by an additional 4,000 square meters of outdoor areas. The swimming pool itself, measuring 25 by 15.5 meters, features six lanes and is capable of accommodating 36 swimmers for training sessions simultaneously, along with bleacher seating for 250 spectators. Additional facilities such as administration offices, changing rooms, a medical room, and a restaurant enhance the overall service offerings.
This infrastructure aims to promote swimming, particularly for children and young people, and will facilitate training, competitions, and sporting events. Aziz Akhannouch emphasized that these inaugurations are a continuation of the Urban Development Program for Agadir, aligning with the Royal Vision for a comprehensive and sustainable urban transformation that places citizens at the heart of the development process.
He stressed the importance of ensuring effective management of these facilities to guarantee the sustainability of their services, noting that these projects extend beyond merely creating infrastructure. They are designed to provide vibrant and open spaces that allow children, youth, and women to engage in cultural, social, and sports activities under appropriate conditions.
