A.P. Moller Capital Ventures into Moroccan Logistics with Globex Acquisition
A.P. Moller Capital, through its Emerging Markets Infrastructure Fund II and APM Capital Morocco Fund, has announced a significant move in the logistics landscape by signing an agreement to acquire a majority stake in Globex Investissement, a prominent logistics entity in Morocco. This partnership will see the current CEO and founder of Globex, Omar El Kadiri, continue to lead the firm alongside a seasoned management team, ensuring a seamless transition as the company embarks on its next growth phase. El Kadiri's leadership will be pivotal in steering Globex towards sustainable growth and long-term value creation in the evolving logistics market.
Globex has established itself as a key player in Morocco's transportation and logistics sector, bolstered by exclusive local market licensing agreements, including one with FedEx. The company has a solid foothold in various segments including express delivery, road freight, freight forwarding, and customs brokerage, positioning it as a leader in the region.
A.P. Moller Capital’s extensive experience in transportation and logistics, coupled with its profound understanding of the North African market, positions it as an ideal partner to support Globex in enhancing its market leadership. A significant aspect of this partnership is the commitment to sustainable practices, with Globex aiming to become a leader in green logistics within Morocco. This initiative aligns with a broader Net Zero roadmap that includes the deployment of solar-powered hubs, an electric vehicle fleet, and comprehensive CO₂ reporting tools, all backed by robust environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards.
Completion of this acquisition is contingent upon customary conditions, including clearance from the Moroccan Competition Council. Kim Fejfer, CEO of A.P. Moller Capital, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, highlighting the strategic alignment with their core focus in a rapidly developing logistics market. Similarly, Ghislane Guedira, CEO of APM Capital Morocco S.A., conveyed confidence in the investment, emphasizing the potential to bolster Globex’s market position while prioritizing sustainability in Morocco’s transport and logistics sector.
