Call for Architectural Competition for Morocco's Pavilion at the Venice Biennale 2027

Architectural Competition Announcement

From Monday, July 27, 2026, until Monday, August 10, 2026, at 4:30 PM, the General Secretariat of the Department of Culture will accept applications for the competition aimed at designing, organizing, and executing an exhibition at the pavilion dedicated to the Kingdom of Morocco during the 20th International Architecture Biennale in Venice, 2027. This competition is open to architects and groups of architects who are licensed to practice independently and are registered with the National Order of Architects, maintaining compliance with tax and CNSS regulations.

Theme and Guidelines for the Pavilion Design

The competition for the design and completion of the Morocco Pavilion at the 20th International Architecture Biennale in Venice is framed under the theme: "Do Architecture — For the Possibility of Coexistence Facing a Real Reality." The architectural competition documents will be available for download starting July 20, 2026, via the following link: mjcc.gov.ma or can be obtained at the organization unit of the Venice Biennale 2027 at the General Secretariat of the Department of Culture located at 1, Ghandi Street, Rabat.

The allocated budget for the design and turnkey execution of the pavilion’s arrangements is ten million dirhams (10,000,000 DHS) excluding taxes. Competitors can download the competition package from the aforementioned website, which includes the following documents:

  1. A copy of the competition advertisement;
  2. The competition orientation note;
  3. The competition regulations;
  4. Space usage rules; (Pending the receipt of the official document related to the 2027 Architecture Biennale, the document titled "Rules for Space Usage" applicable to the Morocco Pavilion at the 2026 Venice Art Biennale is attached. The usage rules being identical for the 2027 edition, this document can serve as a reference in the interim.)
  5. The site plan and survey of the pavilion within the Venice Arsenal;
  6. A sworn statement;
  7. Prizes allocated to selected candidates;
  8. Competition timeline.
