The 17th edition of the "Lighthouse of Peace" camp has offered children from Jerusalem an array of enriching cultural, sporting, and maritime experiences in the cities of Mdiq, Tetouan, and Tangier. This initiative is organized by the Al-Quds Bayt Mal Agency under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, who is also the head of the Al-Quds Committee. On Saturday, the Royal Sailing Club at the Tangier Marina warmly welcomed the Jerusalem children, allowing them to enjoy a delightful maritime tour aboard well-equipped boats adorned with both the Moroccan and Palestinian flags, symbolizing the enduring friendship and solidarity between the Moroccan and Palestinian peoples.

Prior to this nautical excursion, the children engaged in a sporting experience on Friday in Mdiq, where they visited the Royal Golf Club. They had the opportunity to explore different components of the golf course, from the tee to the fairway and the rough areas, culminating in a chance to learn fundamental skills in using various types of golf clubs, under the guidance of professional trainers. The experience was not solely about grasping the basics of the game; the children also learned about the etiquette of golf, which emphasizes respect for fellow players and the course, as well as discipline, honesty, courtesy, and sportsmanship, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all participants and spectators alike.

After their time in Mdiq, the Jerusalem children ventured into the old town of Tetouan, exploring its ancient narrow streets and discovering the unique features of Moroccan architecture, including intricate zellij tiles, authentic mosaics, woodwork, and brassware. The details of the old city evoked a sense of familiarity among the children as they navigated its alleys and markets, while the aromas of floral water, spices, grape leaves, and fresh vegetables reminded them of the historic markets in the Old City of Jerusalem.

The group concluded their visit to Tetouan with a tour of the "Northern Market," a collaborative platform for promoting local handicrafts, where the children explored regional products, medicinal and aromatic herbs, beauty products, preserves, oils, and honey, alongside traditional and ceramic crafts. Many of the children and their mentors expressed heartfelt emotions and gratitude for this yearly initiative, generously provided by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, which enables Jerusalem’s children to visit Morocco and experience the diversity of its landscapes, the beauty of its nature, and the warmth of its people.

On Thursday evening, the children of Jerusalem enjoyed a fun-filled evening at an amusement park in Tangier, where they shared a familial atmosphere with Moroccan families, relishing rides on flying trains and swinging carousels, before indulging in electronic games and water slides, all amidst a backdrop of joy and laughter. Since its inception in 2008, the Children of Jerusalem camp has been one of the agency’s annual social and educational programs, benefitting a total of 850 Jerusalem children, along with 85 mentors, over the years.
