Citadel Season Two: A Global Spy Thriller Expands with New Faces and High Stakes

Prime Video's Citadel Returns with an Expanded Cast and Intense Plot

Prime Video's high-octane spy thriller, Citadel, is making its much-anticipated return, thanks to the creative backing of the Russo brothers. The series, which first premiered in 2023, features a robust cast including Richard Madden, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, and Stanley Tucci. The show has successfully given rise to two spin-offs: an Indian adaptation titled Citadel: Honey Bunny and Citadel: Diana, which is set in Italy. The narrative follows elite agents Mason Kane and Nadia Sinh, portrayed by Madden and Chopra Jonas respectively, who have had their memories erased following the collapse of Citadel, an independent spy organization they were once integral members of.

As a powerful syndicate orchestrates events from behind the scenes, the duo is reluctantly drawn back into a treacherous world filled with shifting allegiances, high-stakes missions, and intricate conspiracies that threaten to upend the global order. Tucci lends his talents as Bernard Orlick, a crucial associate of Citadel and a pivotal figure in the spy ensemble.

New Characters and Rising Stars Join the Lineup

The recently released trailer for Season Two, which debuted on Wednesday, indicates that the series will delve deeper into its thrilling premise while broadening its cast. Returning to their roles are Madden, Chopra Jonas, and Tucci, but they will also be joined by a diverse group of new operatives as a fresh threat compels them to seek out new recruits for another globe-spanning mission. Among the notable new additions are English actor Matt Berry, Irish actor Jack Reynor, Brazilian actor Gabriel Leone, and American actresses Rayna Vallandingham and Merle Dandridge. Particularly exciting is the inclusion of French-Moroccan actress Lina El Arabi, who brings a dynamic presence to the series.

Born in 1995 in Choisy-le-Roi, near Paris, El Arabi is a talented actress with Moroccan roots, whose career has gained significant traction over the past decade. She began her artistic journey at a young age, receiving training in theatre, music, and dance, before seamlessly transitioning into film and television as a teenager. Her breakout role came in 2017 with the Belgian film Noces (A Wedding), where she portrayed a Belgian-Pakistani teenager facing the harsh realities of a forced marriage. This performance earned her the prestigious Valois Award for Best Actress at the Angouleme Francophone Film Festival, marking her as a performer drawn to emotionally complex roles.

Since then, El Arabi has appeared in a variety of independent films and mainstream television series in France, often tackling narratives that focus on themes of identity, family, and belonging. She gained further recognition through her role in Netflix’s comedy-drama Family Business, but it was her leading performance in the 2024 action series Furies that garnered her international acclaim. In Furies, El Arabi embodies Lyna, a young woman who becomes embroiled in Paris's criminal underbelly following her parents' tragic murder. The series artfully combines stylized action with character-driven storytelling, allowing El Arabi to showcase her physical prowess and emotional depth—qualities that are likely to serve her well as a spy in Citadel.

During her appearance at Canneseries in April of last year, where she was promoting her series Plaine orientale, El Arabi expressed pride in her dual identity as both French and Moroccan, stating, “I love my last name and my origins. I’m very proud of them.” As the excitement builds for Season Two of Citadel, which is set to premiere on Prime Video on May 6, viewers can look forward to an exhilarating continuation of this globe-trotting espionage saga.
