Strengthening Community Engagement Through Sports
On September 15, a significant partnership was announced between Crédit du Maroc and the Association of Runners of Greater Casablanca (ACGC) at the bank's headquarters. This collaboration aims to reinforce the bank's commitment to the vibrant life of the metropolis. By associating its name with one of Casablanca's premier sporting events, Crédit du Maroc aspires to foster its growth and prominence within the community.
The upcoming marathon will maintain its three formats: the full marathon of 42 km, the half marathon of 21 km, and a relay of 4×10.5 km. Scheduled for October 25, the event will commence and conclude near the iconic Hassan II Mosque. Additionally, the marathon will feature a dedicated village and various activities designed to enhance the overall experience for participants and spectators alike. With its name now linked to the marathon, Crédit du Maroc takes a significant step forward in its territorial engagement, recognizing the importance of not just the athletic component but also the broader social dynamics that revolve around the city, melding sports with wellness and community ties.
Ali Benkirane, the Chairman of Crédit du Maroc’s Executive Board, expressed the bank's deep-rooted connection to Casablanca. He emphasized that this city is where the bank was founded and has flourished over the years, serving thousands of clients daily. Benkirane noted that Casablanca is a dynamic and evolving city, making it a natural fit for the bank to support its marathon. He views the event as a symbol of the metropolis, embodying values such as discipline, commitment, and collective spirit. "The marathon represents more than just 42 kilometers; it embodies movement, wellness, and a strong sense of dedication and discipline. What starts as an individual sport transforms into a collective experience," he remarked.
Making Running Accessible to All
The partnership aims to position the marathon as an inclusive event open to the general public. Crédit du Maroc seeks to support the organization in transforming the marathon into a unifying event that welcomes seasoned runners, amateurs, and beginners alike. "We aspire to inspire Casablanca to embrace running, transforming this event into a gathering that, in the future, holds true international significance. A marathon involves thousands of people moving forward together, each at their own pace, while fostering a community spirit that emphasizes mutual support," highlighted Benkirane.
This philosophy resonates with that of ACGC, which views running as a means to experience the city in a new light. Bouchta El Fadel, President of the ACGC, sees this partnership as a pivotal moment in the marathon's evolution. "This ceremony marks a significant turning point in the history of the Casablanca Marathon. This collaboration embodies the coming together of two institutions with shared ambitions—commitment, competitiveness, and a focus on the development of Casablanca," he stated. He further articulated that the marathon is "far more than just a race"; it unites runners, volunteers, businesses, and citizens, transforming Casablanca into a communal space centered around sports for one day.
"For one day, the whole of Casablanca runs and comes together. This is why the term chosen by Crédit du Maroc, 'Move,' aptly captures this spirit," he added. As the ACGC aims to elevate the marathon to a national and international sporting event that reflects the city's prominence, they have set a goal of establishing Casablanca as a premier African running capital, targeting 20,000 participants by 2030.
El Fadel reiterates the ambition of gradually evolving the marathon into a benchmark event. "Our aim is to establish this marathon as a significant national and international sporting event, aligning with the aspirations of great cities like Casablanca. The marathon is more than a race; it is a human event that brings together thousands of runners, volunteers, businesses, and individuals," he asserted. In this regard, Crédit du Maroc is devoted to supporting this trajectory. "Our aim with this partnership is to lend our support to the organizing team to transform this marathon into a grand event, hopefully international, but above all, an accessible sporting event for everyone," concluded Benkirane.
