Government Extends Support to Road Transporters Amid Rising Diesel Prices
The Moroccan government has announced an extension of its support program for road transporters as diesel prices have recently surpassed the significant threshold of 15 dirhams per liter. This decision, which is a response to ongoing fuel price pressures, will provide a new tranche of aid covering a period of 30 days to professionals engaged in passenger and goods transportation.
As reported by the Ministry of Transport and Logistics, applications for this new aid tranche will open on Thursday, September 24, on the dedicated electronic platform known as “Mouakaba.” This initiative comes at a time when the fuel market faces considerable tension, with diesel prices in Casablanca recorded between 15.30 and 15.33 DH per liter as of September 16, marking an increase of 2.74 DH per liter since mid-July.
The rising fuel costs have placed significant pressure on the transportation sector, where fuel constitutes one of the primary operating expenses. This increase not only affects operational costs but may also lead to higher transportation tariffs. Furthermore, the international context remains challenging, with Brent crude oil prices exceeding $100 per barrel and ongoing pressures in the global diesel market due to supply disruptions and refining capacity issues.
