Increased Competition for Flights from Zurich to Marrakech
The surge in popularity surrounding Morocco as a prime travel destination has significantly impacted the flight market originating from Zurich. Following Chair Airlines' recent announcement to add Marrakech to its flight offerings, EasyJet has also entered the fray, intensifying competition against the well-established Edelweiss airline.
Historically, travelers wishing to fly directly from Zurich to Marrakech had limited options, primarily relying on Edelweiss for their journey. However, the burgeoning interest in Morocco has shifted the dynamics, resulting in a surge of competitive offerings on this route.
Last summer, Chair Airlines revealed its plans to introduce Marrakech as a new destination, facilitated by an expansion of its fleet. Starting from September 2026, Chair Airlines will operate two weekly flights from Zurich to Marrakech, catering to the growing demand.
In a strategic move, EasyJet has followed suit by announcing a new flight connection between Zurich and Marrakech starting in the winter of 2026. Beginning October 28, the British low-cost carrier will offer two flights per week, a development closely linked to the establishment of a new EasyJet base in Marrakech, which is set to open on April 15, 2026.
Reflecting its trademark approach, EasyJet is offering competitive pricing on this route, with tickets available from as low as 56 Swiss Francs per person, provided that passengers book together and travel with hand luggage only. Additional services, such as checked baggage, will incur extra charges.
With the entry of both Chair Airlines and EasyJet into the Marrakech flight market, the competition is expected to escalate significantly, much to the delight of travelers who will benefit from an increase in choice and potentially lower fares.
