Celebration of Young Egyptian Footballers' Achievements
In a significant event, the Egyptian Football Federation is set to honor the U-17 national team on Saturday at 1 PM in their main hall located in 6th of October City. This celebration is dedicated to recognizing the remarkable achievements of the team, which has successfully qualified for the World Cup in Qatar and secured a bronze medal at the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations held in Morocco.
The Egyptian U-17 team, guided by coach Hussein Abdel-Latif, showcased an impressive performance during the 16th edition of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, which took place from May 13 to June 2. They clinched a spot in the World Cup by finishing second in Group A, following a victory against Tunisia (2-1), a draw with Ethiopia (0-0), and a narrow defeat to the Moroccan team (1-2).
The young Pharaohs continued their stellar journey in the tournament by defeating the Ivory Coast in the quarter-finals with a commanding score of 4-1. However, they faced a setback in the semi-finals, where they lost to Tanzania in a penalty shootout. Despite this, they concluded the tournament on a high note by triumphing over the host nation and reigning champions Morocco (2-0) in the third-place match, thus achieving the best result for Egyptian football at this age level since winning the title in 1997 in Botswana.
This ceremony not only marks the team's accomplishments but also highlights the potential of young athletes in Egypt, reinforcing the commitment to nurturing future football talents. The Federation hopes this recognition will inspire continued excellence and dedication among young players across the nation.
