The Salvadoran Football Federation (FESFUT) announced on Wednesday that the scheduled friendly match between El Salvador's national team and Morocco has been canceled. In its place, a match against Qatar has been arranged, which will take place in the United States.
According to FESFUT President Yamil Bukele, the African team requested to reschedule the match, citing that they would not have their full squad available for the original date of June 3. Morocco suggested moving the match to June 2 in their home country and even offered to cover the travel expenses for the Salvadoran team.
However, Bukele indicated that this request was ultimately rejected by El Salvador. He explained that during the FIFA date in question, they intended to play two friendly matches, one of which is set to occur in North America. International regulations prohibit a national team from playing two friendly matches on different continents on the same FIFA date. "We would have loved to play that match, but it is impossible for us to travel there because, according to the regulations set by the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA), you cannot play in two different continents on the same FIFA date," Bukele elaborated in a post on the social media platform X.
Following this development, the FESFUT president confirmed the friendly against the Qatari team, scheduled for June 6 in Los Angeles. Notably, this match will not be broadcast on television.
