The 'Afaq' leadership program, organized by the Sharjah Girls’ Institute and the Sharjah Youth, is set to take place from August 8 to 13. This initiative aims to develop leadership identity and emotional intelligence through practical application, with 40 participants selected from 141 applications received. The program is part of the foundational life skills pathway within the broader framework of leadership and parliamentary skills, under the slogan 'A Generation That Leads, An Impact That Inspires'. It represents a comprehensive experience designed to cultivate a generation aware of its capabilities and prepared to engage in leadership experiences that foster a positive and sustainable impact.
The program has seen significant interest, reflected in the 141 applications submitted. A preliminary sorting process will be conducted based on established participation criteria, followed by personal interviews with candidates to select the final 40 participants.
Sheikha Jawaher bint Abdullah Al Qasimi, the Director General of the Quarter Century Foundation for the Development of Leaders and Innovators, emphasized that investing in the personal development of youth and enhancing their leadership skills is a fundamental step toward preparing a generation capable of taking responsibility. She stated, 'Building leaders does not begin at the leadership positions but starts with providing opportunities that help youth discover themselves, learn from their experiences, and translate their ideas into practices and actions. This highlights the importance of programs that offer them space for experimentation, teamwork, decision-making, and community service.'
The program focuses on several key leadership axes, beginning with the leadership identity axis, which aims to enhance self-awareness, identify strengths, and build a clearer leadership identity among participants. Additionally, the emotional and social intelligence axis contributes to developing positive communication skills, understanding emotions, and fostering effective relationships with others.
Sheikha Al Shamsi, Director of the Sharjah Girls’ Institute, noted, 'The program provides a qualitative space for participants to engage in a comprehensive leadership experience that starts with self-understanding and discovering their strengths, extends to teamwork and decision-making, and culminates in creating a real impact in the community.'
Dr. Abdulrahman Al Yassi, Director of Sharjah Youth, explained that an effective leadership experience requires moving from theoretical knowledge to practical application. He highlighted that the program 'not only presents leadership concepts but also provides participants with the opportunity to apply them in real-life situations.'
