Impersonation of a Public Official Leads to Arrest in Casablanca

A man in Casablanca has been remanded in custody as he faces serious charges, including impersonating a public official, forgery, and fraud. Following an extension of his police custody, the suspect appeared before the King’s prosecutor at the Ain Sebaa Court of First Instance. The court subsequently ordered his detention at the Ain Sebaa local prison, commonly referred to as Oukacha, where he will await trial.

The man was apprehended on Tuesday after law enforcement officials uncovered a makeshift judge's office within an apartment he had converted for this purpose. The office was equipped with legal texts, a judge's robe, and a fabricated appointment order, all meticulously arranged to lend authenticity to his fraudulent claims. This elaborate setup was reportedly utilized to deceive victims into believing he possessed judicial authority, enabling him to promise acquittals or leniency in sentences at the Ain Sebaa criminal court.

According to sources from Hespress, the suspect had previously completed an internship at the court in 2021, which provided him with insight into the judicial processes and operations. He allegedly leveraged this experience to bolster his fraudulent narrative, asserting to victims that he held a judicial position that did not necessitate his presence at court hearings. Despite his attempts to portray himself as a legitimate figure within the judiciary, he had not been able to secure an official role in that field. The allegations against him are currently under legal examination, with court proceedings expected to unfold in the coming weeks.
