French-Algerian Citizen Sentenced to Imprisonment for Defamation on Social Media

French-Algerian Woman Sentenced to One Year in Prison for Social Media Defamation

The Marrakech Criminal Court issued a ruling on Monday against a French citizen of Algerian descent, sentencing her to one year in prison along with a monetary fine of 2000 dirhams. This decision came in the wake of her involvement in a case concerning defamation and the dissemination of false allegations through social media platforms. The court's judgment was rendered in case number 353/2105/2026, where the accused, identified as Yasmin W., faced charges for broadcasting and distributing false claims aimed at infringing on the private lives of individuals and defaming them, in addition to insulting a legally established organization.

The defendant was detained and brought to justice after being arrested at Marrakech Menara Airport earlier this June, on suspicions of her involvement in publishing digital content that contained insults directed at Moroccans and accusations against public officials. This situation prompted an investigation under the supervision of the relevant public prosecutor's office.
