Resignation and New Beginnings

In a significant political shift, Idriss Ablahadh, the regional secretary of the General Union of Workers in Fez, has officially resigned from his position within the Istiqlal Party. His resignation was submitted to the party's Secretary-General prior to his announcement of joining the Constitutional Union, where he has been endorsed as a candidate on its list in Fez. This transition comes after the Istiqlal Party, led by Nizar Baraka, declined to nominate him for a run at one of the four available seats in the upcoming legislative elections.

In his resignation letter, Ablahadh expressed that throughout his journey with the party, he has never sought a position without responsibility or a privilege without merit. He emphasized that his commitment to the party was not measured by the positions he held or the endorsements he received, but rather by his contributions, presence, activism, and the sacrifices he made to defend the party during challenging times.

However, he noted that after considerable patience and attempts to communicate and advise from within the party institutions, he found himself confronted with a reality that no longer aligned with his principles or the meaning he ascribes to political work. This realization made it increasingly difficult for him to continue his involvement.

Ablahadh articulated his concerns regarding the diminishing weight of the activist's voice compared to other calculations within the party. He lamented that merit could often be overshadowed by political alliances and balancing acts, noting that years of dedicated work in the field do not always guarantee a minimum level of fairness and recognition.

He clarified that his resignation was not a protest against the electoral endorsement given or withheld, as these endorsements are fleeting and positions are temporary. Instead, what remains are human dignity, the status of the activist, and respect for the principles of justice and fairness within the organization to which one belongs.

In conclusion, Ablahadh stated, "I am not resigning from the history of the party, nor from my respect for its leaders and national principles, nor from the comrades with whom I have shared years of work and struggle. Rather, I choose to leave an organization where I no longer find the space to be in harmony with myself and my convictions under its current management."
