In a disappointing end to their campaign at the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), Kenya's Harambee Starlets were eliminated after suffering a 2-0 defeat to Algeria in their final Group A match held at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, Morocco. As the game progressed, Kenya sought to mount a response before halftime. Martha Emedot came close with a long-range effort that narrowly missed the target, while Algeria continued to threaten, nearly adding a third goal when Morgane Ikene's header went just wide. Upon returning from the break, the Starlets enjoyed more possession and displayed increased composure in their midfield play. However, Algeria's organized defense limited their chances significantly. Kenya's best opportunity arose late in the match when captain Mwanalima Jereko skillfully maneuvered the ball inside the box but ultimately shot just wide of the post. Algeria expertly managed the second half to secure their victory, finishing second in Group A and earning a place in the quarter-finals. This outcome confirmed Kenya's exit from the tournament without a single point, highlighting the challenges the team faced throughout the group stage. In a simultaneous match, Morocco secured the top spot in Group A after a goalless draw against Senegal, finishing the group stage unbeaten with seven points and an impressive defensive record.
Morocco, despite not winning all their matches, demonstrated dominance in possession while creating quality chances primarily through players like Ghizlane Chebbak and Sakina Ouzraoui. Senegal's disciplined defense proved formidable, particularly when goalkeeper Adji Ndiaye saved a penalty shot from Yasmin Mrabet not once, but twice, preserving a clean sheet for her team. In the end, Morocco advanced to the knockout stage as group winners, while Algeria followed suit as runners-up.
