Exploring Shared Maritime Heritage Between Morocco and Spain
The port city of Tarragona recently hosted a significant lecture and exhibition titled "Maritime Antiquities Between the Shores: A Shared Heritage Between Morocco and Spain." This event was part of the Moroccan Studies Chair at Rovira i Virgili University and was organized in partnership with the General Consulate, the National Institute of Archaeological Sciences and Heritage, and the Institute of Human Paleontology and Social Development. It also included the participation of Mohammed I University and received support from the Qasid Foundation for Training.
Organizers highlighted that the gathering attracted numerous officials, institutional representatives, researchers, professors, students, and civil society members, showcasing the keen interest in the historical and cultural heritage shared between Morocco and Spain. This initiative aimed to foster scientific, academic, and cultural exchanges across the Mediterranean and to underscore the importance of heritage and archaeological research in understanding humanity's history and development.
During the event, Ikram Shaheen, the General Consul of the Kingdom of Morocco in Tarragona, expressed her pride in Morocco, stating, "Our origins all trace back to Africa." She emphasized Morocco's role as a significant reference point in archaeology and a cradle of human civilization based on recent archaeological discoveries made in the kingdom.
