Mohamed Ouahbi: Morocco Now Among Football's Elite Nations

Morocco Aims High at the 2026 World Cup

Upon arriving in New Jersey with the Moroccan delegation, national team coach Mohamed Ouahbi expressed his ambitious outlook for the upcoming 2026 World Cup. Speaking to FIFA, Ouahbi conveyed the determination of his squad just days before the tournament kicks off. "We are here to achieve great things. We genuinely hope to make Moroccans proud," he stated, emphasizing the team's commitment to success.

According to Ouahbi, Morocco has firmly established itself as a reference point in global football. "We have come with the resolute intention to show that Morocco is now among the great nations of football," he asserted. He anticipates a highly competitive World Cup, facing formidable opponents. "I am aware that there will be intense rivalry, adversity, and excellent teams, but we are prepared to give our all to represent our country to the best of our ability," he added.

The Moroccan delegation arrived at Newark Liberty International Airport on June 3, where they will continue their preparations before entering the competition. During their stay in the United States, the Lions of the Atlas will set up their training camp at The Pingry School in New Jersey. This strategic choice will help minimize travel during the group stage, as their three matches will be held on the East Coast of the United States.

On June 4, an open training session is scheduled for the public at 6 PM local time at the Lions of the Atlas camp, providing fans an opportunity to witness a portion of the preparation for the African champions just days before their World Cup debut. Before entering the competition, Ouahbi's men will play a final friendly match against Norway on June 7 at the Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, New Jersey. This match will serve as the last tune-up before the prestigious event.

In Group C, the Moroccan team, featuring stars like Achraf Hakimi, will face Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti. Their first major encounter is set for June 13 against Brazil at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, followed by a match against Scotland on June 19 at Gillette Stadium in Boston, and culminating the group stage on June 24 against Haiti at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
