Mohamed Ouahbi's Continued Leadership of the Moroccan National Team
Despite facing criticism from fans and media alike, Mohamed Ouahbi will remain the head coach of Morocco's national football team. This decision was confirmed by the national football association just one week after the team's exit in the quarter-finals of the World Cup, where they faced France and lost 0-2. The executive committee of the association has expressed their renewed confidence in Ouahbi's capabilities to lead the Moroccan team, as stated in an official announcement.
Ouahbi took over the coaching role merely three months prior to the World Cup, succeeding Walid Regragui, who remarkably guided the team to the semi-finals in 2022, marking a historic achievement as the first African nation to reach that stage in the tournament. Although the football association has not disclosed specific details regarding the duration of Ouahbi's contract, the 49-year-old coach mentioned in an interview with beIN Sports back in May that his contract is set to last until the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco will co-host alongside Spain and Portugal.
