Moroccan Airports Experience Remarkable 9.7% Growth in Passenger Traffic by April 2026

Significant Surge in Air Traffic

As of the end of April 2026, Moroccan airports have welcomed an impressive total of 12.33 million passengers, marking a substantial year-on-year increase of 9.7%. This surge is primarily driven by international traffic, particularly from Europe and Africa, reflecting a notable recovery in the aviation sector post-pandemic. The Mohammed V Airport in Casablanca continues to dominate as the country's leading hub, accommodating approximately 3.76 million travelers, which represents a robust 12.6% increase compared to the same period last year.

Details of the Growth Across Major Airports

The figures released by the National Office of Airports (ONDA) indicate that the overall commercial air traffic has reached 12,336,962 passengers, a significant rise from the previous year. Noteworthy growth rates have also been recorded at several other airports, including Béni Mellal with a remarkable 27.06% increase, Errachidia at 18.53%, Rabat-Salé with 13.48%, Tanger-Ibn Batouta at 11.5%, Nador-El Aroui at 11.29%, Marrakech-Menara at 10.81%, and Agadir-Al Massira at 10.27%. This performance is largely attributed to the increase in international passenger traffic.

In terms of passenger traffic distribution, international flights accounted for 11,067,321 travelers, reflecting a growth of 9.54%, while domestic flights recorded 1,269,641 passengers, which is an increase of 11.10%. The international traffic growth spans various geographical markets, with Europe, which constitutes over 80% of total international traffic, experiencing a 9.64% increase. Other markets such as Africa, North America, the Maghreb region, and South America have seen even more pronounced growth rates of 19.61%, 21.98%, 13.65%, and a staggering 41.24%, respectively. However, the Middle and Far East markets faced a decline of 4.62%.

Moreover, the total number of airport movements across all Moroccan airports reached 91,128 by the end of April 2026, reflecting a 10.35% increase compared to the previous year. Additionally, air freight traffic also witnessed a significant rise of 11.83%, totaling over 39,515 tons, as compared to 35,334 tons during the same period in 2025. This comprehensive growth in both passenger and freight traffic underscores the resilience and recovery of Morocco's aviation sector, positioning the country as a key player in the regional air travel landscape.
