Moroccan Authorities Crack Down on Criminal Group Linked to Extremism

Recent Arrests Target Extremist-Linked Criminal Activities

In a significant operation, Moroccan security forces have arrested six individuals suspected of being part of a criminal organization with alleged extremist links. The Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) confirmed that these arrests took place on April 5 and 6, 2026, across multiple cities, including Casablanca and Kenitra, as well as in the rural areas of Dar El Gueddari and Sidi Taïbi. The suspects are accused of engaging in a range of criminal activities, such as burglary, theft, and money laundering.

According to preliminary investigations, the group operated following a deliberate criminal pattern that they attempted to justify ideologically. Under the guise of a radical extremist ideology, the group targeted livestock farms near Kenitra and Sidi Slimane, claiming that their plunder was "legitimized" by their beliefs. The stolen livestock was subsequently sold at regional markets in the Safi province and the city of Zemamra. The BCIJ stated that the primary aim of these criminal acts was rapid financial gain to support the group's extremist endeavors.

Evidence Seized and Ongoing Investigations

During the raids, authorities uncovered substantial evidence linking the suspects to their illicit activities. In addition to knives and other sharp weapons, investigators discovered books and documents containing extremist content. Cash and several vehicles were also seized, including transport vans believed to have been used for transporting stolen goods. The suspects are now in custody under the supervision of the public prosecutor's office, which specializes in cases of terrorism and extremism. Current investigations focus on uncovering the precise connections between the criminal acts and the ideologies of the accused. This case underscores the vigilant measures taken by Moroccan authorities against networks that intertwine organized crime with radical ideologies.
