Morocco Achieves Record Date Exports to Germany

Morocco's Remarkable Date Export Milestone

In a significant achievement for its agricultural sector, Morocco has reported a record export of 714 tons of palm dates to Germany, translating to a remarkable revenue of over €4.2 million in the period between July 2025 and May 2026. This figure represents an astonishing twenty-twofold increase compared to the total exports recorded during the 2024/25 season, and it is more than six times the cumulative shipments from the previous five years. This surge is predominantly attributed to the popularity of premium Medjool dates, which have gained substantial traction in international markets.

Despite Morocco's notable success in exporting high-quality dates, it is essential to recognize that the country remains one of the largest importers of lower-priced dates from various countries, including Egypt, Tunisia, the UAE, and Algeria, to fulfill domestic consumer demand. The shift towards exporting premium dates is indicative of changing market dynamics, as Morocco aims to enhance its position in the global agricultural market.

Germany: A Rising Market for Moroccan Medjool Dates

According to industry insights from EastFruit, Germany has emerged as a crucial European market for Moroccan Medjool dates, placing them on par with Israeli products in the premium segment. This development opens up promising avenues for Moroccan exporters, as they now have a realistic opportunity to break into Germany's top ten date suppliers, a feat that would further elevate Morocco’s profile in the international agricultural landscape. In addition to dates, Morocco has also been successful in exporting other agricultural products such as oranges, sweet peppers, and cucumbers to the German market, indicating a broader trend of increasing agricultural exports.
