Strategic Partnership to Boost Ferry Transport and Tourism

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) has recently entered into a significant three-year partnership with the Italian maritime company GNV, aiming to enhance tourism and maritime connections between Italy and Morocco. This ambitious collaboration sets a target of welcoming 350,000 ferry passengers departing from Italy. The agreement was officially ratified in Rabat during the annual GNV conference, which took place in Marrakech from October 2 to 5, 2026.

Promotional Campaign and Target Audience

Italy is recognized as a key tourism market for Morocco, having attracted 1.15 million Italian tourists in 2025, with 15% of these visitors arriving via maritime routes. This partnership will not only promote Morocco as a travel destination but will also implement various initiatives designed to increase ferry passenger numbers. A comprehensive joint campaign will be launched in Italy, featuring radio and television advertisements, influencer-generated content, promotions through GNV's travel agency networks, and street marketing activities. Furthermore, Morocco will be prominently featured on GNV's ships through digital screens, the GNV APP, and onboard radio stations.

This initiative aligns with ONMT's strategy, which emphasizes travel experiences and showcases the diverse regions of Morocco. It specifically targets Italian visitors interested in road trips, 4x4 expeditions, and eco-tourism. The ferry services provide travelers with the flexibility to bring their vehicles on board, allowing them to plan their itineraries freely and explore multiple regions during their stay. Additionally, this partnership supports the annual Marhaba Operation, which assists millions of Moroccans living abroad, including a substantial community in Italy.

The cooperation also extends discussions surrounding the GNV Aurora, a dedicated vessel for Morocco, which was officially named on June 1, 2026, thereby formalizing this partnership for the next three years.
