Morocco Braces for Heatwave with Temperatures Soaring Up to 45 Degrees

Impending Heatwave Set to Impact Morocco

The General Directorate of Meteorology has issued a stern warning regarding an upcoming heatwave that is expected to sweep across various provinces in Morocco. From Friday, June 19, to Sunday, June 21, 2026, residents in multiple regions of the Kingdom should prepare for significantly elevated temperatures, which could soar to alarming levels.

Orange Alert for Affected Areas

In its official advisory, the meteorological agency has categorized the affected regions and assigned them an orange warning status. Provinces including Errachidia, Jerada, Taourirt, Figuig, Zagora, Tata, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, Aousserd, Guercif, and Boulemane are forecasted to experience temperatures ranging from 40 to 45 degrees Celsius during this critical period. Moreover, an additional heat surge is anticipated over the weekend, with maximum temperatures between 39 and 42 degrees expected in Taza, Berkane, Oujda-Angad, Fès, Moulay Yaâcoub, and Taounate.

To mitigate the health risks associated with such extreme heat, the General Directorate of Meteorology aims to alert both the public and local authorities in advance, emphasizing the dangers posed by prolonged exposure to high temperatures. Health complications related to heat stress are particularly pronounced when temperatures exceed 40 degrees. Consequently, local authorities are typically advised to monitor weather conditions closely and implement necessary precautionary measures. It is recommended that individuals avoid direct sunlight during peak hours and ensure adequate hydration to safeguard their health.
