Morocco's Strategic Push in Hong Kong's Tourism Sector
The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) is ramping up its strategy to penetrate the lucrative Hong Kong tourism market. This initiative was highlighted during a recent gathering held in this Special Administrative Region of China, which brought together around thirty travel operators and agencies. The primary aim of this initiative is to enhance Morocco's visibility as a sought-after destination for affluent clients and to stimulate an increase in tourist arrivals from China.
This event, orchestrated by the ONMT delegation in Beijing in collaboration with the Moroccan Embassy in China and the honorary consulate of Morocco in Hong Kong, included a productive work meeting and a series of B2B encounters. These sessions not only featured professionals currently promoting Morocco as a tourist destination but also attracted operators interested in incorporating it into their travel packages.
During the meeting, the key advantages of Morocco were emphasized, particularly its rich historical and cultural heritage, the diversity of its tourism offerings, and the various flight connections between China and Morocco. These factors are deemed crucial for driving the growth of visitor numbers to the Kingdom.
Ambassador's Remarks and Future Goals
In his address at the event, Abdelkader El Ansari, the Moroccan Ambassador to China, pointed out a significant upward trend in the number of Chinese tourists visiting Morocco, which surged from approximately 107,000 visitors in 2023 to about 200,000 in 2025. The ambassador underscored the Kingdom's ambitious target of welcoming 500,000 Chinese tourists in the coming years, with a long-term goal of reaching one million tourists by the early next decade. This goal is underpinned by Morocco's reputation for safety and stability, the development of direct flight connections, the richness and diversity of its tourist offerings, and enhanced promotional campaigns aimed at this market.
Otman Mazouz, a representative from the ONMT, elaborated on the operation as part of a broader strategy to bolster Morocco's profile among Chinese tourism professionals and to foster lasting collaborations with major travel distributors. He highlighted an appealing tourism offering centered on authenticity, cultural richness, and high-end experiences that align with the new expectations of Asian clientele seeking exotic destinations and unique niches.
